Have you ever heard of a Tool Library? It’s like a regular library, but instead of checking out books, you can borrow tools that are otherwise expensive, bulky to store, or get used so infrequently it’s hard to justify owning them yourself.

Dig In is launching a Tool Sharing Library so folks have access to the resources they need to provide for themselves and their communities. We are prioritizing tools & equipment for growing, harvesting, and processing food to support food security and resiliency. By sharing resources as a community, we can create abundance!

We are also accepting donations of tools that would be a good fit! Our full Wish List is here. Email olivia@diginyancey.org for donation inquiries.

Building Food Security through Tools

We want to empower people to have access to the tools they need to grow, harvest, and preserve food to increase our county’s food security and resiliency. We offer specialized gardening and food processing tools like:

  • Precision seeders
  • Deer fencing tools
  • Hoop benders for building hoop houses
  • Pressure canners
  • Dehydrators
  • Seed processing equipment
  • High-end meat grinder
  • Vacuum sealer

How it Works

A tool library is much like a regular library– you become a member, borrow items, then return them for the next user. Members can reserve tools for certain dates to complete their projects. A librarian will assist you to check items in and out. Loans are for one week.

Membership

Becoming a member is easy. You simply make an account on our MyTurn site, fill out our membership agreement and liability waiver, pay your annual fee, and you’re in! We charge an affordable sliding scale fee of $30-50 annually to maintain the tools and pay the librarian. How does a sliding scale work?

Borrowing Tools

Members can reserve tools on our website. Within a few days, a Dig In staff will meet you at the Tool Library in Burnsville and check out your tool. All tools are due back in one week. After 7 days, a $1/day late fee applies to each tool you borrowed, for every day it is late, including days we are not open.
