Empty Bowls is back! Dig In! Yancey Community Garden invites everyone to celebrate another abundant season of growing and sharing together at our annual Empty Bowls fundraiser. This year, we will be hosting our fundraising dinner on October 2 at the Burnsville Town Center.

Purchase tickets to the event online or at the door. Online ticket sales begin in early September, so come back and see us! Full price tickets are $40 and come with a choice of soup, bread, dessert, and a beautiful handcrafted bowl. We want to make sure this event is for everyone, so we are also offering a kids/food-only ticket for $15.
Select from over a dozen different soups prepared by local restaurants and caterers. Sample a diverse array of breads and desserts donated by talent home bakers throughout the county. The bowls are made by talented regional artists. The empty bowls are a lasting invitation to fill it with abundance, to support a vibrant local food system, and practice community care.
Since 2010, Dig In has been dedicated to growing and sharing fresh food with the community free of charge. Their work is based in the beliefs that everyone has the right to fresh, high quality food they like to eat and that by bringing people together around growing and sharing food, our community becomes stronger. Dig In operates a 2 acre community garden where volunteers and young people learn how to grow food sustainably, coordinates a growing network of collaborative food growing projects in Yancey County, and collaboratively operates food sharing programs that feed 200-500 families weekly during the growing season.
The Empty Bowl fundraiser is Dig In’s largest annual fundraiser. Revenue supports about 10% of the organization’s operating budget. Around 300 people participate in the event, including both ticket holders and volunteers. It is a part of an international grassroots movement to raise both money and awareness in the fight to end hunger. This year marks the 16th annual Dig In! Empty Bowls Fundraiser.

We couldn’t have this fun-filled evening without the work of dozens of volunteers. We’re looking for folks to help heat soups, sell tickets, pass out bowls, clean up, and more.
