The first-ever Yancey “Cornament”, a cornhole tournament benefiting Dig In! Community Garden, will take place Saturday, July 24th at 3:00pm on the lower lawn of Homeplace Beer Company in Burnsville.
Teams of two to four players are invited to register to corn-pete in single elimination rounds of play. The team that can’t be beet will be crowned the Cornament Champs. See registration form for more tournament details.
Prizes will be awarded from local businesses like Homeplace Beer Co, Forde Wilson Glass, and Designs in Orbit to the tournament winners, the team with the corn-iest name, and the team with a-maize-ing spirit.
The event is rain or shine and will follow CDC recommendations for masks and social distancing. Spec-taters are encouraged to bring a chair to root on their favorite team from the sidelines. Cornhole boards will be available for kids and free play following the first two elimination rounds, with a donation for playing appreciated by Dig In.
Dig In is a community effort growing food to share at gardens in Yancey County to ensure that everyone has access to fresh, local produce. Funds from this event will keep Dig In growing and sharing into the next seasons.
Team registration begins July 7th online at https://bit.ly/diycornament and in-person at Homeplace. Space is limited. The entry fee is a suggested minimum donation of $10 per player. Contact 828-536-0414 or kwood@diginyancey.org with questions.
