Dig In! Yancey Community Garden invites everyone to celebrate another extraordinary season of growing and sharing together at our annual Empty Bowls fundraiser. This year, we will be hosting our fundraising dinner on October 6 at the Burnsville Town Center.

Tickets

Purchase tickets to the event online or at the door (cash/check only). Full price tickets are $40 and come with a choice of soup, bread, dessert, and a beautiful handcrafted bowl. We want to make sure this event is for everyone, so this year we are also offering a kids/food-only ticket for $15.

Select from over a dozen different soups prepared by local restaurants and caterers, and a diverse array of breads and desserts donated by talent home bakers throughout the county. The bowls are made by local artisans throughout the Toe River watershed and are a lasting invitation to fill it with abundance: to support a vibrant local food system and practice community care.

Once again, the event will be inside the Burnsville Town Center. There will be limited seating inside the Town Center, but guests are also welcome to dine at our outside seating area at the Nu Wray Hotel.

An expanded Empty Bowls cookbook

This year, we are releasing an expanded edition of our Empty Bowls cookbook, which was last published in 2018. The cookbook is a collection of recipes of beloved soups, breads, and desserts from our fundraiser through the years. The variety of recipes reflects the abundance and diversity of our community. And each recipe will come with a story about what makes that particular dish meaningful.

The cookbook will be available for pre-sale at the Empty Bowls dinner, with a release party in November.

Coming Together

We invite everyone to come connect with neighbors old and new. Throughout the evening, guests will be invited to contribute to a collective garden mural. Add veggies, flowers, insects, hopes and dreams to the scene and watch our garden grow! A kids activity area will offer face-painting, games, and more.

Finally, volunteers will also be hosting a community bake sale with additional breads and desserts to take home. To donate a bread or dessert for the bake sale, please contact us at farmer@diginyancey.org.

The Empty Bowl dinner is our largest fundraiser each year. We raise money to support our programs growing and sharing so that everyone can eat well. As we enjoy the abundance of the season, we look forward to the opportunity to share a meal and celebrate the ways our community grows together.
