Neighbors and friends of all ages are invited to plant, play, connect and learn at the Dig In! Yancey summer celebration on Saturday, June 18th from 10:00am – 12:00pm at the Seeds of Hope Garden, located at First Baptist Church on Avery St. just off the Burnsville Town Square.

Drop by or stay a while and meet the Dig In team, ask questions, and learn about community gardening initiatives in Yancey County. Visitors can tour the Seeds of Hope garden to learn about raised bed gardening tips and techniques. Seeds of Hope is a part of the Dig In Community of Gardens, a network of people growing and sharing food where they live, learn, play, pray, and work in Yancey County.

Kids of all ages can even take home some of their own “seeds of hope” with a sunflower planting activity.

At 10:30am, there will be a cooking demonstration and tasting featuring early summer vegetables like beets, snap peas, broccoli, and spinach.

Potted herbs, such as oregano and basil, and perennial flowers will be available by donation to benefit Dig In’s food growing and sharing programs. Community members are welcome to bring their extra plants or seeds to share as well.

We look forward to celebrating the community of care that Dig In is a part of – whether you volunteer with us, eat food we share, or are simply interested in learning more about this work.
