One member of the general public will have the opportunity to join our elite panel via an online silent auction. \nTo join our judging panel\, enter our silent auction at https://www.32auctions.com/FruitFest2024 \n  \nPIE BAKE OFF RULES\n\n1. Contest is open to amateur bakers of all ages. There will be two categories: Youth (17 & under) and Adult (18+). \n2. Pies must be made from scratch and feature a fruit. Bakers may not use store bought crust or pie filling. \n3. Each pie submitted must include a list of ingredients (so we can post allergens). \n4. Contestants may enter up to 2 pies. \n5. *Deadline Extended* Each pie entered must complete the entry form below by Friday\, August 9. \n6. The pies must be dropped off at Birdfoot between 3:00 and 4:00 PM on Friday\, August 9. If you would like your pie tin back\, please label the bottom of the pan. \n7. Pies will be judged by a 3 person panel: Bonnie of La Petite Baking Company\, Simone of Sweet Simone’s\, and a third position will be available to the public via silent auction. The judges’ decision will be final. \n8. Winners will be announced and prizes for first and second place awarded at 5:00 PM. We also exchange cooking tips\, recipes\, and ways to care for ourselves and each other. \nWe encourage folks to bring their own bags to reduce waste\, although we will have bags available for us. We also encourage folks to continue the community care by considering who else might benefit from our produce and bringing home bags for multiple households. Everyone is welcome!

DESCRIPTION:We’re hosting an Open House about the community composting program we implemented this year! Please join us on Saturday\, September 28 from 10 am – 2 pm at our primary growing space on Blankenship Creek Rd. All are welcome to drop by and tour the composting system\, ask questions\, and enjoy snacks. We’ll have lots of giveaways: compost buckets with screw-on lids and door prizes (including a bag of Dig In compost). Farmer Katie Anne will lead a hands-on demonstration at 1pm. SUMMARY:Empty Bowls Fundraiser
DESCRIPTION:Dig In! Yancey Community Garden invites everyone to celebrate another abundant season of growing and sharing together at our annual Empty Bowls fundraising dinner on October 4 at the Burnsville Town Center. \n\nTickets to the event can be purchased online or at the door. Full price tickets are $40 and come with a choice of soup\, bread\, dessert\, and a beautiful handcrafted bowl. Over a dozen different soups are prepared by local restaurants and caterers\, and a diverse selection of breads and desserts are donated by talent home bakers throughout the county. The bowls are made by regional artisans who have donated their craft so that our gardens flourish with food for everyone. The empty bowl serves as a lasting invitation to fill it with abundance: to support a vibrant local food system and practice community care. We want to make sure this event is for everyone\, so this year we are also offering a kids/food-only ticket for $15.  \nThe food and bowls will be available inside the Burnsville Town Center. There will be limited seating inside the Town Center\, but guests are also welcome to dine at our outside seating area at the Nu Wray Hotel.  \nAs we enjoy the abundance of the season by sharing freshly prepared soups and breads\, we look forward to the opportunity to celebrate the ways our community grows and nurtures together.
