DESCRIPTION:Dig In! Yancey Community Garden invites everyone to celebrate another abundance-filled season of growing and sharing together at the annual Empty Bowls fundraiser on Friday\, October 3 from 4 – 7pm at the Burnsville Town Center.  \nThe Empty Bowl fundraiser is our largest annual fundraiser. It is a part of an international grassroots movement to raise awareness and mobilize resources towards building food security.  \nTickets include a choice of soup\, bread\, dessert\, and a beautiful handcrafted bowl. Soups are prepared by a number of local restaurants\, breads and desserts are donated by local community members\, and the bowls are made by our region’s talented professional artisans. DESCRIPTION:Join us for our weekly walk-up no-cost markets. In partnership with TRACTOR Food and Farms and Reconciliation House\, we offer produce and eggs sourced from our gardens\, home gardens throughout the county\, and over 30 local farms free of charge. We also exchange cooking tips\, recipes\, and ways to care for ourselves and each other. \nWe encourage folks to bring their own bags to reduce waste\, although we will have bags available. We also encourage folks to continue the community care by considering who else might benefit from our produce and bringing home bags for multiple households. Everyone is welcome!

DESCRIPTION:Dig In! Yancey Community Garden invites everyone to celebrate summer’s sweet abundance at our third annual Fruit Fest on August 22\, 2025 at Birdfoot and Hearth Glass Gallery! We will celebrate with fruit-themed games\, kids activities\, vendors\, and live music\, as well as a fruit pie-bake off! \n\nJOIN OUR JUDGING PANEL\nLocal baking experts Bonnie Gullak of La Petite Baking Co and Simone of Sweet Simone’s will be two of the judges of our pie bake-off. One member of the general public will have the opportunity to join our elite panel via an online silent auction. \nTo join our judging panel\, enter our silent auction at https://www.32auctions.com/FruitFest2025 \n  \nPIE BAKE OFF RULES\n\n1. Contest is open to amateur bakers of all ages. There will be two categories: Youth (17 & under) and Adult (18+). \n2. Pies must be made from scratch and feature a fruit. Bakers may not use store bought crust or pie filling. \n3. Each pie submitted must include a list of ingredients (so we can post allergens). \n4. Contestants may enter up to 2 pies. \n5. Each pie entered must complete the entry form below by Thursday\, August 21. \n6. The pies must be dropped off at Birdfoot between 3:00 and 4:00 PM on Friday\, August 22. If you would like your pie tin back\, please label the bottom of the pan. \n7. Pies will be judged by a 3 person panel. The judges’ decision will be final. \n8. Winners will be announced and prizes for first and second place awarded at 5:00 PM.
