Empty Bowls 2015 breaks records!

Due to the hard work of Board Vice President Linn Dowell, fantastic new volunteer Nancy Henkelman, and many, many volunteers, our annual fundraiser broke records and raised over $10,000 this year! This was Dig In!’s 5th annual Empty Bowls event held at Higgins Memorial United Methodist. Over 375 people attended, an overwhelming turnout to support the day-to-day operations of the garden. Eighteen local restaurants and individuals donated homemade soups, volunteers baked bread and cookies, local artists sold crafts to benefit the garden, and Smokey Joe and Friends entertained. The Empty Bowls event is an international grassroots effort to raise both money and awareness in the fight to end hunger. Founders, Lisa Blackburn and John Hartom live in Burnsville. John is a Dig In! founder along with Linda McFarling. John and Linda were honored at the event with their spouses for the integral role they have played in establishing the success of Dig In!. Thank you to all who contributed and attended this year’s Dig In! Empty Bowls Event. We look forward to seeing you next year.
